Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease Disc degeneration is a normal part of aging and is not usually a problem. However, DDD can causes the discs to lose height and to become stiff. When disc height is lost, nerve impingement, bone and join inflammation and resultant pain an occur. Dis degeneration causes “bone on bone” like arthritis pain and inflammation. A Cervical Misalignment occurs when the subluxation is present some muscles supplied from C5 to C8 will usually test weak with cervical flexion. If many or all of the muscles below the subluxation level test weak, there is probably spinal cord involvement from the disk.

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) is a gradual process that may compromise the spine. Although DDD is relatively common, its effects are usually not severe enough to warrant medical attention. In this discussion we address Degenerative Disc Disease in the lumbar spine. Degenerative changes in the spine are often referred to those that cause the loss of normal structure and/or function. The intervertebral disk is one structure prone to the degenerative changes associated with wear and tear aging, even misuse (eg smoking).

Facet Syndrome are bony projections on the back side of the spinal vertebrate that articulate (come in contact) with each other to help stabilize the spine. They make up two of the three-pronged weight bearing structures of the spine, the third being the vertebrate disc itself. A Herniated Disc
is a rupture of fibrocartilagenous material (annulus fibrosis) that surrounds the intervetebral disc. This rupture involves the release of the disc’s center portion containing a gelatinous substance called the nucleus pulposus. Pressure from the vertebrate above and below may cuse the nucleus pulpous to be forced outward, placing pressure on a spinal nerve and causing considerable pain and damage to the nerve.

Radiculopathy this disease is often caused by direct pressure from a herniated disc or degenerative changes in the cervical spine that cause irritation and inflammation of the nerve roots. Radiculopathy usually creates a pattern of pains and numbness that is felt in your arms of your legs in the area of skin supplied the by sensory fibers o the nerve root, and weakness in the muscles that are also supplied by the same nerve root. The number of roots that are involved can vary, from one to several, and it can also affect both sides o the body at the same time.

Sciatica, is a form of neuralgia characterized by intense pain and tenderness along the course of the body’s longest nerve ( sciatic nerve ), extending from the back of the thigh down to the calf of the leg.

Herniated Cervical Disk a common cause of neck, shoulder and arm pain is a herniated or ruptured cervical disc. Symptoms may include dull or sharp pain in the neck or between the shoulder blades, pain that radiates down the arm to the hand or fingers, or numbness or tingling in the shoulder or arm. Certain positions or movements of the neck can intensity pain.
